Magnus Atlevi
Magnus Atlevi is a Swedish professional golf player, who became a scratch player at age 15, and at that time he was the youngest ever in Sweden. At 16 he reached a +1 handicap, as one of just four players in the country.
Magnus has achieved a lot during his younger years as an amateur golfer, which lead to, in the end of 1982, Magnus being named the Swedish Golfer of the Year, male and female, by far the youngest player ever and the last time an amateur received the award.
Which garment from abacus® do you prefer to play in - and why?
Polo shirt and shorts, partly because then the weather is so pleasant to play in, but the feeling of the clothes being so thin and flexible makes you feel so free and relaxed.
What is your favorite rain garment, and why?
I play in the Pitch 37.5 rain jacket, and i use it both when it's wind and rain, I like the midnight navy color. I can swing freely in both jacket and trousers, they repel the rain well and it feels extra good when it's bad weather and knowing you have good stuff.
Do you use abacus® clothing for any other activity besides golf?
I like to use the vest when going into town or errands, the Elgin hybrid vest. But I also think the Saunton belt with jeans goes very well together. Of course, both a hat, Wodhall knitted hat and winter gloves, Gullane Mitten when we are out walking. I like the Hillside shirts when I'm on the move, they are, as they say in English, smart casual.
Magnus Atlevi
As the youngest child (of three) in the family, it was just a matter of going along with the others when they started playing golf.
Tell us about your best memory in your career!
The wins I've managed on the various tours over the years because that's the point of competitive golf, to win.
Biggest inspiration in golf?
Having played up close with some of the best golfers in the world such as Jack Nicklaus and Sevy Ballesteros. Their high level.
What are your strengths/weaknesses in golf?
To never give up and confidence has fluctuated over the years.
Do you have a favorite golf course?
There are so many, but I am very weak when it comes to a nice links course in the summer. The ones I'm thinking about now are the courses I've played the Senior British Open on recently, which are Royal Lytham St:Annes and Carnousti Golf Links. When they are in good condition and well prepared for competition, that's as close to holy ground as I come.
Morning or evening golfer?
Both can be equally beautiful when the weather shows its best side.
Drive or putt?
With increasing age (applies to everyone, of course, but you understand) it is something very "macho" to be able to hit a drive that flies far and straight. The feeling that you still can. On the other hand, we all like sinking a putt. Assessing the feel of the length of the putt, reading the slope of the green and doing it on the last green, and doing it in the combination of both managing the tee and sinking the putt on the last hole is the greatest satisfaction.
What is the role of the right clothes when playing golf?
The clothes help you to perform better because you like what you are wearing.
What are the most important features for a golfer when it comes to clothing?
The fit is important, but also that the material is thin and flexible. The piece of clothing must be flexible in one's swing movement in combination with the style, you get some good feelings and that is what we want on the course.
Why do you choose to dress in abacus® clothes?
It's actually a coincidence, I worked at LAGK where we had Abacus as work clothes. When I started playing again, it only felt natural as I had already been using Abacus for a year and enjoyed the fit, materials and style. What was new for me was using several layers depending on the weather. We play and practice golf for most of the day and the weather varies quite a lot from time to time, not least in temperature, having matching clothes in several layers has been great and fun. It's fun to have good stuff when you play sports, right? It's like for a chef and his knives, so it is for me with my equipment.
