What to wear underneath your rainwear
And why it is so important
With apparel it’s easy to put all the focus onto the outer layers, and many golfers forget that they should focus on that all important base layer. If the garment next to your skin has little or no wicking properties, the body heat stays in the base layer, moisture won’t be moved away from the body which leads to cold setting in, and golf becomes very wet and uncomfortable. When this happens even the best technical outer layer has minimal effect and its benefits are lost.
Key to a good base layer is the material that it’s made from. Only materials with a high breathability and wicking properties should be next to the skin to ensure that heat and moisture are moved quickly away from the body always keeping you comfortable. In addition, the amount a garment stretches is important to make sure nothing gets in the way of the golf swing. A lightweight layer next to the skin makes you less bulky and more flexible.
